Treatment of sludge

The sludge produced by treatment plants contains a high percentage of water.

In order to reduce this percentage, thickening and dehydration treatments are applied:

  • thickener;
  • drying beds;
  • belt filter;
  • centrifuge;
  • press filter.

Lime may also be added in order to improve dryness, ensure stabilisation and improve the sludge’s properties.

An optional anaerobic digestion stage can also help to ensure the biological stabilisation of the sludge, while at the same time producing biogas.
